Heroes Season Four Will Be Shorter Heroes will get a fourth season, but it could be considerably shorter than what we had for Seasons 1 and 3.
Advertising Age reports what was first hinted a month ago (see March 5 news items) - Heroes Season Four could be "between 18 and 20 episodes."
Falling ratings in addition to the "event" nature of having a limited run for a season may both be contributing factors, if this comes to pass.
The article also claims that Heroes has suffered a serious financial loss: In 2007, the show earned over $156 million for NBC. In contrast, 2008 (admittedly, a year where the show was off the air for the first nine months thanks to the writers' strike) - the show made around $61.7 million.
Stay tuned for more Season Four news as it becomes available.

More Heroes Writers Let Go? Chris Zatta, who wrote the popular episode "Parasite" and also was co-writer of the "Cold Wars" episode that aired this week, is apparently the latest Heroes staff member to be let go from the series due to budget cuts.
In an e-mail to a fan on 9thWonders.com, Zatta said this: "I am sad to say that I am no longer with Heroes. NBC decided to cut back on the budget for the show and part of that plan involved downsizing on the lower level writers." It is unknown at this time who else may also have departed the series.

POSTED NOVEMBER 5, 2008
Official Description For Episode #3.11 "The Eclipse - Part II!" NBC has released their official description for "The Eclipse - Part II," the Heroes episode airing on December 1!
BREAKING NEWS: Heroes Drops Jeph Loeb & Jesse Alexander Two popular and major Heroes writer-producers have been let go of by NBC.
Variety is reporting today that Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander, who "were known to have led the day-to-day production operation under the direction of creator/exec producer Tim Kring," have been let go, reportedly because of NBC executives' frustration with the creative direction of the show. The show is also said to have gone over its $4 million per episode budget, so budget may have also been a consideration.
It was Jeph Loeb who first brought Heroes to Comic-Con and introduced the series to its many fans. Alexander, meanwhile, had maintained a presence promoting the show on the Internet, doing many interviews and updating his fans over Facebook. Alexander wrote last week's "Eris Quod Sum" which was quite well received.
About his departure, Alexander had this to say in his blog:
"I write this with a heavy heart. As of today I am no longer a writer/producer on HEROES. I could not be prouder of all the work I did on the show and wish all my Heroic Scribbler pals the very best."
Loeb issued the following statement to CBR: "As of today, Jesse Alexander and I have left 'Heroes.' I'm incredibly proud to have been a big part of the success a show with eight Emmy nods and a win this year for NBC.com. I will miss the superb cast and writing staff and wish everyone the best."

It's Milo's Turn To Enter The World Of Comics... Milo Ventimiglia is soon to follow Jeph Loeb,
Tim Sale, Michael Green, Aron Coleite, Chuck Kim, and Joe
Pokaski in the list of Heroes cast and crew entering
the four-color realm of comic books.
Milo
will be teaming up with Devil's Due Productions (the same
folks who did the excellent and sadly soon to end G.I.
Joe: America's Elite) and his producing partner Russ
Cundiff to create a comic book mini-series called Rest.
Rest
"will revolve around the dangers of staying awake
as a man is drawn into a conspiracy between a malevolent
pharmaceutical company and the U.S. government," Variety
reports. Much like the lead character in Rosario Dawson's
O.C.T. resembled the actress, the protagonist in Rest will
look like Ventimiglia.
The
mini-series itself will be written by Mark Powers, recently
of the "World War III" arc of G.I. Joe
as well as an editor for Marvel Comics' X-Men for
several years, and his work will be based on a story by
Mike O'Sullivan, and the project is set to be unveiled by
Ventimiglia and Devil's Due at the New York Comic-Con on
Friday.
Should
Rest be successful, the property could expand into other
media.

Tim
Kring Addresses Fan Complaints
Many fans have commented that Season Two of Heroes hadn't clicked the way the first season has. Entertainment
Weekly spoke with creator Tim Kring, who addressed the fan
concerns.
''We
assumed the audience wanted season 1 a buildup of
intrigue about these characters and the discovery of their
powers," Kring said in an interview posted at EW's
website. "We taught [them] to expect a certain kind
of storytelling. They wanted adrenaline. We made a mistake.''
Kring
admits that the incorporation of some new characters to
the show hasn't been as successful as they had hoped, saying
that they "shouldn't have been introduced in separate
story lines that felt unattached to the show. The way we
introduced Elle (Kristen Bell) by weaving her in
via Peter's story line is a more logical way to bring
new characters into the show.'' With that said, he hints
that not all of the new characters will be around beyond
Volume Two of the series.
In
relation to the Claire and West "romance," Kring
admits it may not have worked. ''I've seen more convincing
romances on TV,'' he told EW. ''In retrospect, I don't think
romance is a natural fit for us.''
The
Dec. 3 episode of Heroes is being treated much like a season
finale and a conclusion to the "Generations" story
arc. When the show returns, it will be somewhat of a "clean
slate." "The message is that we've heard the complaints
and we're doing something about it," he says.

Talks To Jack Coleman Wizard Magazine's WizardUniverse.com
has posted an all-new interview with HRG himself, Jack
Coleman, where he talks about his character, his mysterious
intentions, his first name, and more.
There
may be some minor spoilers but for the most part, Coleman
talks about his role and HRG's place in the Heroes landscape.
Mr.
Coleman also talks about some of the online speculation
about his character. Here's a sample:
"Its
funny, because sometimes I go online and I read some
of these things and I go, Oh, thats an interesting
one. They really do know about as much as I do.
I mean, Im obviously a few episodes ahead of them.
I can tell you that a few episodes ahead, its
certainly not been revealed yet who I am answering to,
but you see more and more of me answering to someone
and usually not getting my way. So its going to
be interesting, and my guess is that its not going
to be a quick reveal because the show is, after all,
a mystery. Although people are always dying to know
if youre good or bad, if its this or that,
who is itultimately when all questions are answered,
what do you have left? Its a never-ending series
of questions, of which some get answered and the new
ones arrive, but at the heart of a mystery you have
to have a mystery."
Entertainment
Weekly Lists Sylar As One Of TV's Top Villains
Issue #916 (the current issue) of Entertainment
Weekly has a feature on TV's best villains, and
Sylar (Zachary Quinto) is one of the five baddies
chosen on their "best" list.
There
are two pictures of Quinto within (if you can scan them,
e-mail us), and
the magazine also talks to the actor himself about playing
such a guy that we love to hate.
Among
other things, EW asks Quinto if Sylar does, in
fact, eat brains. "I think he might," he tells
the magazine in a "sinister, singsong" voice.
"But I also think the mystery is as much fun as knowing.
My opinion? Let's just say I think Sylar has a refined
palate."
Zachary
Quinto exhibits a very good sense of humor when he tells
EW what he and his villainous alter ego might have
in common. "Searing intelligence and devastating
good looks?" he initially suggests, before giving
a serious answer.
"No,
I would say we both have a desire to be valued. My desire
to be valued is manifested in cultivating relationships
with my friends and family. Sylar's desire to be valued
manifests itself... well, in a murderous rampage."
The
feature also includes a sidebar listing TV's best villains,
and it's good, but we're wondering who decided to leave
Jim
Profit off of the list.
The
issue of Entertainment Weekly (featuring Meryl
Streep, Helen Mirren, and Dame Judi Dench on the cover)

industry was the TV show Heroes. While Civil
War garnered a tremendous amount of mainstream press,
Heroes was a complete and total validation of what
it is that all of us in comics know and believe. Sure,
you can watch Heroes and say, hey, its X-Men,
or its Rising Stars, or wait a minute, that
character is Rogue and hes Kitty Pryde, but none
of that matters.
"Hear
me out for a second.
"The
reason that what were seeing on Heroes, though
fantastically entertaining, isnt unique to us, is
because weve seen the Heroes model before.
The maturing of the superhero concept happened over 15
years ago and it began with books like Watchmen and
V for Vendetta.
"Why
is Heroes such a huge hit? Well, its easy.
The mainstream audience is experiencing for the first
time what we did when we read those great comics only
theyre experiencing it for the first time. Much
like myself who came back to comics after reading Watchmen
and being floored by the possibility of the medium, John
and Jane Q. Public are now looking at comics and comic
characters in a whole new light, theyre 15 years
behind us. But, thats to be expected, were
still a small medium and the exposure to the masses was
tough for us. Now, I feel that Heroes may change everything
if it continues with its great success. Couple this with
Spider-Man 3 and you have a tinderbox of acceptance
ready to explode!"
Now
if only Marvel (or another major publisher) would license
a monthly Heroes (or 9thWonders!) comic...
Zach Is Out?
When Heroes returns, Claire Bennet might
have to find a new best friend. Although it seems that
HRG may have had The Haitian erase some memories to ensure
that would happen anyway.
The
reason that Claire may have to move on is that Thomas
Dekker (Zach) has been cast in the major role of John
Connor in the FOX pilot The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
The Chronicles are a spin-off from the popular Terminator
movie franchise.
Should
The Sarah Connor Chronicles do well, you could see
it on TV screens as early as Fall 2007.
