Character Biography:
Isaac Mendez is an artist and former drug addict. His girlfriend of two years, Simone Deveaux, split with him after he relapsed and began painting the future. At the time, she did not believe such a thing was possible and did not want to deal with it. She continued to act as his art dealer, later selling a painting to Linderman.
Isaac began painting the future shortly after a heroin relapse. He could not remember painting anything and believed the paintings to be "evil." He eventually overdoses, which presumably increases his powers as well. When Simone and Peter Petrelli, a hospice nurse, come to his aid, they find a mural of New York City exploding covering his entire floor.
After his recovery, Isaac was set on stopping the catastrophe, and believed that he needed the heroin to do it. He had no intention of quitting, so Simone left him. Simone would come by later to pick up paintings for a gallery showing. Isaac shows her an image he had drawn seven weeks ago of her kissing Peter Petrelli in the rain, but Simone believes that he was following her. He asks Simone to give him money for "painting supplies," which Simone deduced to meaning heroin. Isaac is still determined to be a hero, and continues to shoot up. He then paints one of many paintings involving a cheerleader and her subsequent death.
Isaac receives a visit from Peter Petrelli, who tells him that he has received a message from the future saying to "save the cheerleader." Peter and Isaac then rifle through all of the paintings and discover that they are meant to be laid out like a comic; much like Isaac's comic 9th Wonders!. They realize that a panel is missing, which Isaac believes Simone had taken to sell.
Later on, Isaac receives a visit from Eden McCain, who comes claiming to be an admirer of his work. In actuality, she uses her powers to bring him to Odessa, TX after finding out that he had been drawing paintings of Claire, Mr. Bennet's daughter. In Texas, Isaac spends days recovering from heroin withdrawal. Through his recovery, Eden promises him that she will help him to paint without the use of heroin. Once clean, Isaac attempts to paint but to no avail. Mr. Bennet steps in and demands that Eden use her power of suggestion to make Isaac take heroin again. She reluctantly follows orders and Isaac begins painting. In spite of this, Isaac doesn't paint anything useful to prevent the death of Claire Bennet, which Mr. Bennet was trying so adamantly to stop.
After
Claire's death was successfully prevented, Eden would
visit Isaac, giving him a cell phone and a keycard. She
leaves him to escape. He then contacts Hiro
Nakamura, who had been calling him after visiting
the future date of November 8th. After seeing the 9th
wonders comic from November 8 and listening to Hiro's
account of the explosion and Isaac's death, Isaac realizes
that he had just recently made sketches of Hiro without
the use of heroin. He decides to try painting again and
successfully paints an image of Hiro encountering a dinosaur.
Isaac
has now returned to his studio in New York.
