<description>Caitlin cannot be gone forever because of the laws of conservation of matter and energy. She cannot disappear into oblivion. If that future timeline is changed, she has to exist somewhere. Montreal 2007 makes the most sense. If the timeline no longer exists, she can't have traveled there, since the laws of physics prevent her from disappearing into oblivion without a trace.

<description>Months after the last post, I still think the discussion is not over, not until we see the third season anyway.
About Caitlin, I think she is lost forever. We have seen in the show that there are timelines, there have been visits from, and travels to the future, where things go bad, and in our story's timeline, those events are prevented from happening. When Peter and Caitlin teleported, they traveled to a possible future, which became an alternate timeline from the moment when it was prevented in the present by stopping the virus, a timeline theoretically unaccessable since this future can no longer happen, and any travel through time could not lead to it. If this old timeline hasn't been deleted, then Caitlin still lives in it, but from our point of view Peter and Caitlin just disappeared when they teleported, and when Peter came back it was as if Caitlin was wiped from existence, only to appear in a future time, and in a timeline different than ours. Of course the virus plot might still continue, and it would seem that Peter could travel into that dark future and rescue Caitlin, but still if the date of the virus release is changed then we speak of a different future without Caitlin in it. I personally don't see any logic in Caitlin suddenly appearing in the future in our timeline, or any way they could bring her back with a believable story. The sad fact is that she is gone, forever. There are so many ways to theorize time travel, with or without timelines, but I believe that if the show sticks to it's definition of it so far this is how things could be explained. Or at least it's how I see things.

<description>I agree with posters above that the Heroes 360 experience includes the Otto blog - the show isn't really complete until I read your review here. Thanks for the great reviews as always.

However, I'm curious why your play-by-play started with Mohinder, and skipped over what was probably my favorite scene this season. The initial fight between Peter and Hero was well-coreographed, and I loved the way Hiro was able to use teleportation and minor time-displacement both offensively and defensively in an enclosed space, all while maintaining stopped time - I mean, wow. It shows how far both Hiro and Peter have come in controlling thier powers. Pluse, thier dialogue while fighting resolved a lot of the questions you left at the end of last week's blog.

		<description>&lt;i&gt; Angela did not try to prevent Nathan from doing this.&lt;/i&gt;

That's a very interesting point which also leads me to believe she was not the one to have Nathan shot. She would not have known about Nathan planning to expose them unless she was watching the surveillance camera in the vault.

On the other hand, if her power is something that would have informed her of that, then maybe she did have something to do with it. But, I don't think so, it seemed more like someone was just informing her of what was done.

<description>Oh, and my theory is that Noah Bennet (now back to full H.R.G. mode) is the one that killed Nathan. What a twist, that he kills Claire's biological father to keep her safe and that Angela did not try to prevent Nathan from doing this.

		<description>Otto -

Great review, certainly hitting on some major points (plotholes?). You and I keep going back and forth with the 'Back to the Future' school of thought regarding the time-space continuum. They really did shape our understanding moreso than H.G. Wells. Anyway, where is Caitlin? Does she cease to exist? Is she still in 2008 but now just within the new timeline? She cannot just reappear in Montreal or Ireland. Peter didn't seem too worried at the end.

Speaking of Peter, he was very inconsistent this episode. One moment he's fighting to save the woman he loves, but the next, just happy destroying the virus and taking time to set up a press conference! Go get her Peter! He was also easily pulled back and forth by Adam and then quickly convinced by Nathan. His train of thoughts did not seem to flow well and did not sit well with me. Then he was choking Hiro..I did not think that Peter was doing Hiro a favor not to get sliced up. TK him out of the way, but dont hold him up the wall choking the life out of him.

Looks like Niki is gone but potentially could have found another way out (ala Chloe in the exploding house at the end of Smallville Season 3). As much as I hope Nathan will survive, the blood-saving has already been used a bit too much. He was the words of wisdom and guidance to Peter..his mother cannot be the one he turns to. Or perhaps Angela will help trasform Peter into the next villain!! Never hurts to speculate between seasons/volumes.

I cannot believe Maya survived and Niki died. What a bad story move. Maya's storyline is just extra, unneccesary fluff, but Niki was a connection to Nathan, Micah, the New Orleans crew, the Company. It's unfortunate that her duel personality (didnt seem a super power to me) was never explained more, but her character wasnt very well written. Ali Larter knocked it out of the park and did the best with marginal storylines for her character. It's sad to see her go.

I wonder if Peter gets a little darker, more vengeful after Nathan's death, as Hiro went dark after Ando died (see: Five Years Gone).

Many loose ends should be tied up next Volume and I hope they allow the viewers to feel more connected to the next storyline.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you, Otto, and everyone else. Looking forward to the Next Volume.

<description>Another fine review, Otto. And I generally agree.

A few points, though.

I don't believe Claire's being selfish at all in this instance. I mean, will exposing herself really have any negative effects on Lyle and Sandra save for being separated from Claire? She's not related to them by blood, so I think only Claire would face any real trouble from the public. And that would be something of a punishment for letting the Company find them in the first place.

I think it's wonderful that you've come to like Elle. Although, I haven't grown to hate her--heck, I love her even more for the complexities in her character.

Locking Claire up was probably the kind of decision Bob would ultimately have made if she got too out of hand. But Noah's deal was what saved them.

If I recall, there was some explanation that phasing did not work on heavy metals. Of course, it would've been nice if we got an explanation on that. Still, forcing open the vault has its advantages. I mean, they didn't know what could happen, so it'd be best to have a clear entrance and exit.

On the issue of the Nathan-Hiro continuity: there is an actual grapevine from which Hiro could've learned about Nathan's heroism. Kaito must've known about what went down at Kirby Plaza, who in turn could've informed Ando, and he would explain everything to Hiro.

The thing that was a problem for Niki and Monica wasn't that the beam was obstructing their direct pathway, it was that it was leaning against the door and keeping it closed shut.

I'm absolutely sure that Niki's going to make it into next season, but Nathan's still up in the air.

Happy Holidays.

<description>Great review as always Otto. I really appreciate your work.
I just took a very good look on the last picture with the person, who walks off the crowd... I'm pretty sure that it was Bob who shot Nathan. I can see that bald part of his head, plus do you remember when Nathan, Peter and Matt were being watched by the surveillance camera after destroying the virus? I'm pretty sure that Bob listened to them and knew about their plan.
But that's just what I'm thinking..

Ps: Sorry if my english is bad, I come from Austria

		<description>Otto,

Part of what makes the Heroes experience more than just another television show for me is the extras. Those extras include the Heroes 360 experience and Craig's wonderful Herosite. They also include your blog. I don't know what percentage of your time goes into putting this bit of weekly prose together, but whatever it is, it is one of my weekly highlights - and for that I want to thank you very much.

I'd write someone, somewhere, and tell them you deserve a raise, but something tells me that another ten percent of free is still free. In any case, your time and thoughts are much appreciated.

Have a wonderful holiday!
